Everyone in our house loves cake, so when Baker Days recently contacted me and asked if I would like to review one of their letterbox cakes, of course I said I would love to!
A letterbox cake is exactly what it says, it is small enough to fit through your letter box, but big enough to share! The letterbox cakes are 5 inches across and 2.5cm depth and is enough for 3-4 portions.
When it came to looking on the website to choose a cake it took quite a while, only because there are so many lovely cakes to go for. We opted for a personalised Gruffalo cake, I chose to have a photo of E on the front of the Gruffalo and as you can also personalise the writing I chose a quote from the book.
When the cake came though the door I was very keen to open box, I was pleasantly surprised to find not just a cake. The cake came in a lovely tin with ‘Just for you’ written on the front, there was also a little card with candles on the front and a little pack of love hearts. The presentation was wonderful. Inside the tin was our lovely cake, the design was wonderful and the photo of E was so clear, I was really pleased with it.

Now came the taste test. E was the first to take a piece and try it, her actions said it all. She ate it quietly and then asked for some more straight away, she said it was really nice. I then tried a piece and the cake tasted gorgeous, really moist and tasty.
The cake we had was a tasty sponge cake. When you buy a cake you can choose which recipe you would like to have, the Sponge cake is the standard cake or you can pay a little extra to have Chocolate Chip Sponge Cake made only with Belgian chocolate, Fruit cake, Gluten free cake and Dairy free cake. So there is a great selection to choose from.
The sponge cake was very light and there was the perfection ratio of cake and icing.
Underneath the board the cake sits on is your order number and ingredients of the cake and use by date. The Baker Days letterbox cakes have a shelf life of two weeks which is longer than I would expect for a cake so that is really good. Not that any cake in this house would last that long.
The letterbox cakes cost £14.99 which is more than I would normally pay for a cake but having seen its presentation and tasted it I think it would be a great gift to send to someone. I know I would love it if someone send me one in the post.
Baker Days don’t only sell letterbox cakes, they sell cakes of different sizes, you can also purchase a small (10-12 portions, medium (18-25 portions) and large cake (40-55 portions). I would say the prices of the larger cakes are competitive to those you can buy else where. There is a great range to choose from, take a look at the personalised designs on their website.
Another wonderful item Baker Days sell is cupcakes, you can buy personalised ones or from the designs they have. You can also choose what flavour you would like them to be. Take a look at the yummy cupcakes on their website.
The lovely people at Baker Days are giving the opportunity for one of my readers to win one of their letterbox cakes. To enter please click on the rafflecopter link to enter.
The competition is open to the UK only and closes on the 6th July 2014 at midnight.
