Wow week 27 already, hello third trimester! I’m not entirely sure if it’s week 27 or week 28 when you enter the third trimester as I keep reading different things everywhere, however I’d like to think it’s week 27 so I’m going with that! The time really has flown by, the next 13 weeks need to slow down a little as we are nowhere near ready for its arrival yet.
The second trimester is known for being the best bit of pregnancy apparently, because you’re not massive and sore and stuff just yet, and you have marginally more energy than in the first and third trimesters. I say “apparently” because those benefits passed me by completely. I have just felt tired quite a lot.
This week the baby is the size of a cauliflower and weighs around 2 lbs and is around 14.5 inches long. baby might start to open their eyes around the 27 week mark, and begin to distinguish between night and day. The baby’s brain is going through some of its final stages in development this week and it is said that a baby at this stage can dream, wonder what the wriggler might dream about. The taste buds are fully developed and certain types of food might give the baby hiccups or make them move a lot.
The bump is obviously growing and many people this week have commented on the size of the bump and think that I look further on than I am. Getting bigger is pretty exciting and intimidating at the same time. I’m having a more and more difficult time in bending over, getting up from the sofa and other menial tasks that I had once taken for granted.
I have mentioned about feeling pretty tired a lot, the midwife at my last appointment checked my iron levels and the blood test results came back that I have low iron, which explains everything so I have been given some iron liquid stuff to take which I pick up from the chemist today. Hopefully it will help, I am also making a lot of effort to eat foods high in iron to help boost my energy levels.
I am also on the gaviscon now, the heart burn was getting bad, stopping me from sleeping at night and the pain at some points during the day wasn’t pleasant, but the gaviscon seems to be working thank goodness.
This week I have started to crave cheese and onion crisps, far from healthy but oh so yummy! The doughnut desire is also still there. The hubby and E went to the shop yesterday and E got daddy to buy me a doughnut and said if I ate it the baby would be happy – so cute!
The baby movements are more obvious on the outside now as well as on the inside. When the baby is having a good kick you can see my tummy moving around.
The baby is still nameless and probably will be until its here at this rate, Martin and I just cannot agree on a name, especially boys names. So if you have any great ideas do let me know! We are stumped.
That’s all for this week, check back next week for more bump watch.
