My Five Year Old’s New Years Resolution

Many people make new years resolutions, I have even made some myself which you can read here – New Years Resolutions. Some people manage their resolutions and other crumble after the first few weeks.

When I was talking about New Years resolutions over dinner, E started to ask questions about why people make resolutions so I explained to her that people make them because they want to try to achieve something or change something about them. After a long chat E decided that she wanted to make a new years resolution and after some influence she has decided she is going to try new food this year.

E is a fairly fussy eater, not as bad as some but she knows what she likes and enjoys and is frequently reluctant to try new foods. Things have improved since she started school and has had school dinners, she tried more food items and discovered some that she likes and others she doesn’t. What gets me is that she will eat Steak Pie at school but not at home, I am starting to wonder if it is my cooking she doesn’t like.

One thing E does love is fruit, she always has since she was a baby so she said she wanted to try some different fruit. I took her off to the supermarket and she said she wanted to try raspberries and kiwi, she thought the kiwis were funny because they were furry like a teddy bear! This made me laugh.

After tea that night I made a fruit salad for everyone and included the kiwi and raspberries, E thought this was great. After trying the kiwi we got a thumbs up, she really liked it. The raspberries however was a different story, she said they were too sour. I must admit I am not the biggest fan of raspberries and it isn’t a fruit I buy very often, however I was really pleased that she tried them.

She has said the next thing she wants to try is a jacket potato, I know this might sound like an odd one but she has never had one because she wouldn’t try one. I am not sure how it will go as she doesn’t tend to eat that many potatoes as a whole but we shall see.

I will be blogging about E’s new year resolution through out the year about how we are getting on, hopefully she wont crumble and will be willing to try new foods and by foods.

    Aww this is lovely, you can tell her that I only started to eat cheese this year. That is grated on top of jackets.. for years I was stuck in the habit of grilling it so it melted.

    You may also find that she will eat different things around her school friends, it happened with my youngest with the cooked dinners.

    What a fab idea. Not something I can do with my two year old. He doesn’t keep his promises I’ve found lol Hope it improves your daughters palate though.
