E absolutely loves ice lollies and ice cream and even more so whilst we have been having this glorious hot weather.
We decided to have a look through out ice lolly recipe book and decided to make an adaptation to a recipe. We chose to use seasonal and very tasty fresh fruit.
Super Easy and Super Tasty Strawberry and Watermelon Ice Lollies
After much thought we decided to make Strawberry and Watermelon ice lollies – two of the children’s favourite fruit.
- 1 lb Watermelon
- 1/2 lb of Strawberries
- Juice of a lime
- tablespoon of sugar
Method – Photos of E displaying the method!
Step One – Hull the Strawberries and cut them in half. Place them into the blender and blend.
Two – Sieve the puree through a fine mesh sieve and discard of any solids.
Three – Chop up the watermelon in to pieces and then blend . The blender gets pretty messy at this point!
Four – Sieve the Watermelon puree and discard of the solids.
Five – Put both the watermelon and strawberry puree into the same bowl. Then add a table-spoon full of sugar and the juice of a lime. Then stir until sugar dissolves
Six – Pour the mixture into ice lolly moulds, put the sticks in and freeze for 3-4 hours
Seven – Enjoy!
These ice lollies are so simple to make and E really enjoyed herself. They are a really healthy alternative to some of the shop bought lollies you can buy.
However, the hardest part of making the lollies for E, was having to wait for them to freeze. But as you can see she really enjoyed them once they were ready.
We will definitely make more home made ice lollies. They are also a great way of getting way of getting your children to eat different fruits.
I have already been told that the next ice lollies have to have bananas in. We love anything you can make with bananas in.
