Learning with Education Quizzes – Review

With the summer school holidays coming to a close. I am aware that it has been a long time since E has done any school work. It is easy for children to forget everything they have been taught over the last year. Because of this, is it sometimes important to have a quick recap over the work from the last year. Education Quizzes is a great website for practicing and learning. After being told about Education Quizzes I was keen to get E to have a go at some of the quizzes. E loves learning for which we are lucky. She is a bright young girl who does well at school, however we know she struggles with her maths. So I thought I would let her have a go at some of the KS1 maths quizzes for pupils. Year one at school so far..

This year I never got round to doing a start of term post with the obligatory start of year photos of E looking super smart in her school uniform, so I thought instead I would write a post about how the first half term has gone. Seeing as I missed the start of year photos here are the comparison photos taken on the first day of each year. This years photo unfortunately isn’t very clear. I also took a photo of E in her summer uniform with J E has changed and grown up a lot in a year, it amazes me how much she learnt in reception at school and is now learning so much more. I think she still prefers board books as they are more robust for her. E loves to have stories read to her and will quite often bring books to me during the day to read. She also enjoys looking through them and some of the books she will read to me, only because she… View Post

Toddlers and Music

Everyone loves music and there are many people who not only enjoy listening to music, they enjoy playing it as well, children are no exception. Music is a natural part of life for toddlers. They might sing to their stuffed animals, tap their feet to the rhythm of nursery rhymes, and enjoy the sound of their parents singing to them and clapping. But this early introduction to music does more than entertain, It can kickstart learning. Music contributes to what experts call “a rich sensory environment.” This simply means exposing kids to a wide variety of tastes, smells, textures, colours, and sounds which helps develop the brain. E absolutely loves music, she loves putting her nursery rhyme cd on and dancing around to it, doing some of the actions and even singing along with it. Music has really help develop her movement and speech. She now tells me she is… View Post
