The Very Hungry Caterpillar

We love reading in our house and I introduced books to E from when she was a baby as I think books are an important part of growing up and development. I enjoy reading with Emily and quite often we combine her favourite books with our other favourite past time, crafts! One of Emily’s favourite books of the moment is The Very Hungry Caterpillar, She will quite happily read it over and over again. 20140501-151605.jpg The book itself was published in 1969, 36 million copies of the book have been sold worldwide and it has been published in 55 languages. The book has many educational qualities to it. Counting, colours and of course the wonderful metamorphism of the Caterpillar into a beautiful Butterfly. The craft opportunities are endless and I’m sure we will come up with different crafts in relation to the book in months to come. Today we made our own caterpillar out of different coloured foam shapes and some stickers I found on amazon.

Emily has really enjoyed doing some crafts and colouring based on her favourite book and is already asking to do more and I’m sure the bedtime story tonight will be The Very Hungry Caterpillar.
