It’s that time of year when friends get together and get festive, offices have Christmas parties and people enjoy eating out. Finding somewhere that everyone will enjoy is always tricky when organising a meal out. Bill’s is the perfect venue!
Last weekend I visited Bill’s in Exeter to try out their new Christmas menu. And what a wonderful afternoon it was. I took along fellow blogger, Natalie from Mummy, But Still Me and we had a blast. Great company and exceptionally tasty food. It was the perfect combination.
Bill’s wasn’t somewhere I would have thought about for a Christmas meal, however let me tell you.. Bill’s have put together the most amazingly tasty Christmas menu. For the Christmas menu you are asked to email your orders in advance. I was pleasantly surprised to see plenty of choice with several unexpected dishes alongside the Christmas classics. For instance there’s Camembert and Bacon Beef Burger on the menu, Roast Cod Loin and slow braised venison, mushroom and cranberry pie. They all sounded delicious but I just couldn’t resist the more traditional options.
The restaurant has quite a few festive touches which added to the atmosphere. Natalie and I chose different item’s, therefore I can share more of the menu with you.
Whilst we were waiting for our starters to arrive we decided to have a cocktail, get us into the festive spirit. We were spoilt for choice however we both went for the Prosecco Peach Bellini. I am so glad we did as it was really refreshing and enjoyable.
The starters arrived quickly. I opted for the Wild Mushroom Soup with stonebaked flatbread. And I am so glad I did. This perfectly presented starter was the surprise of the meal as I hadn’t really given much thought to it beforehand. I don’t always have starters with meals. It was really tasty. Not too heavy and the mushroom taste wasn’t too over powering.
Natalie chose the Duck and Fig Terrine. It was well presented and looked great. Natalie said it was tasty and too heavy.
By this point our taste buds were tantalised and we were ready to take on our main courses. Whilst waiting for our main course, we chatted and drank another cocktail. The service was brilliant. The main courses came out fairly quickly and the staff kept checking if everything was ok.
For the main course I chose Roast Turkey. After all we are getting close to Christmas, so I wanted go with the most traditional sounding main. The turkey was stuffed with cranberry and sage sausage meat, wrapped in smoked bacon. It came with all the trimmings and a very tasty red wine gravy.
The portion size was very generous and it was really filling. I almost cleared my plate however I am not a sprout fan! I was very impressed with the main course.
Natalie opted for the Camembert and Bacon Beef Burger. I couldn’t believe the size of the burger when it came out. I would say you certainly get value for money with the brilliant portion sizes. The presentation was yet again brilliant.
The grand finale of the festive feast was an absolutely divine Christmas Pudding Eton Mess. It was quite a large portion, I don’t know how I found room, I like to think that my stomach has a separate compartment for dessert! Anyway, it really was delicious.
Natalie opted for the Chocolate Orange Bread and Butter Pudding. It looked amazing and as much as I thoroughly enjoyed my desert, when I saw her pudding my mouth started to water. It looked like a little bit of heaven. Natalie said it tasted like a warm chocolate orange. Delicious.
After three courses we were both absolutely stuffed. I couldn’t eat or drink another thing. Bills really have done themselves proud with their sumptuous Christmas menu.
Take a look at the Christmas Menus here. There is a Merry Christmas Menu that is £23.95 per person and a Winter wonderland Menu that is £28.95. The menu is available from the 21st November – 24th December.
If you’re looking for a festive menu this Christmas that leaves you feeling very happy, incredibly plump and ready for your Christmas afternoon nap then Bill’s hits the nail on the head. It is one of the best Christmas meals I have had

I have never been to a Bill’s before, I am so glad I’ve finally discovered the quirky delights of this brilliant restaurant.
The staff at Bill’s in Exeter are attentive , the food is brilliant and I really like the shabby chic decor. I felt very relaxed and by the time I left, very full! I will definitely be going back to try the rest of the menu when I next go shopping in Exeter.
