First Day at Big School

The time has come, my little girl has started ‘Big School’, I have no doubt in my mind that she is so very ready but seeing her put on her school uniform yesterday – her first day, it made me realise how tiny she still is. Being an end of May baby she is going to be one of the youngest in the year, hopefully this wont hold her back in any way.

E was so excited about starting big school, the night before I was aware that she woke several times during the night and I think it was due to excitement, being woken when she woke both of us were full of yawns on Wednesday morning, we had both got used to lazy mornings during the school holidays.

E was so excited about getting ready for school I didn’t have any problems with telling her to get dressed, she decided she wanted to wear her blue checked summer dress on her first day.

We had arranged to meet a couple of other mum’s and their little one’s on the way to school at a certain time, E was ready well before then and If she had her way we would have been waiting on a street corner for ages! She really was an excited little lady.

The school E has gone to are operating this ease them in gently routine, which is all very well but it involves a lot of walking to and from school in the next couple of weeks. The first week Wednesday, Thursday and Friday she is going to school from 8.50am until 11.30am – hardly any time at all, even E comments on how quick the time goes. Next Week she will do a full day – 8.50am until 3.15 on Monday, then 8.50am – 1.30 for the Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday and then as of the Friday she will got for full days every day. They say it is so the children can adjust to the new routine and the tiredness they feel.

E comes home full of beans and is looking forward to the next day, I have noticed that in the afternoon she is quite happy to chill out a little more so maybe it is tiring for them?

I got some sort of information out of her about her first morning which contained painting, dressing up as two different princesses, snack time, playing in the playground and story time – sound’s like such a hard morning! She certainly had fun.

I was originally going to write this post yesterday whilst E was at school but I wanted to wait and hear all about her day and then I was going to write it last night but then she told me she wanted to wear her grey uniform dress tomorrow so I thought I would hang off so I could share more photos.

Here she is all excited again and loving wearing her normal ‘winter’ uniform. She looks so smart and cute!

E enjoyed her second morning at school and came home and told me about a new friend she has made who didn’t go to her preschool. Also talked about colouring in , dressing up and being allowed to go into the other foundation class next door. it sounds like she is having great fun and she cannot wait until she can do a full day as she wants to see what will be on her plate for her school dinner! All of that should be interesting as she really is quite a picky eater but hearing that she is excited about the school dinners is a real positive.

I will miss the chill out days we have had, the ‘girls’ mid week trips to Exeter shopping, lunch out and trips to the museum, but I am also looking forward to E starting full time, especially with the new addition being due in October. And the walk up the hill whilst she is doing a few hours here and there is tiresome!

I am pleased that E is loving school and I also hope that will continue once she goes all day every day. It is a big step for her and she is taking it all in her stride and loving it. Before bed tonight she was telling me that she wants to take an apple for snack tomorrow and to wear her blue dress. Her excitement makes me smile!
