Ibiza For Families – a Jet2 Holiday Review

If you are looking for a stress free and unforgettable holiday then look no further than Jet2holidays. No planning, no stressing, just a click of a button and then you are off to somewhere beautiful. Jet2 holidays sent us to the Tropic Garden Hotel Apartments which is in Santa Eulalia, Ibiza.

When you first think about going to Ibiza, many think of it as just a party island, however that is not the case. The Island also offers a quieter side. With wonderful beaches, quaint little towns, amazing places to eat and so much to see and do.

Santa Eulalia is situated on the east coast of the island and is around a 40 minuet drive from the airport. There is a promenade that spans the length of the beach with lovely palm trees. Plenty of restaurants and cafes that can be found on the promenade. The marina in Santa Eulalia is such a nice place to visit – during the evening it is so peaceful.

How to get to Ibiza

Flights to Ibiza with Jet2 fly from 11 different airports. We chose to fly from Bristol airport as that is our closest airport that Jet2 fly from. I cannot fault our experience. We had already checked in online which was really easy to do, so all we had to do is check in our luggage. The jet2 reps were on hand to help, all we had to do is put our bags on self service scales where a Jet2 rep would then put a ticket on your bag and push it to once side with the rest of the luggage. We have never been on a holiday where it was so straight forward.

Bristol is an amazing airport – customs and security was so easy, they didn’t want us to take anything out of our bags and i would say it only took ten minuets to get through – it could have helped that it was 5am!

After some breakfast it was time to board our flight. We already had seats booked which Jet2 recommend when travelling as a family. Boarding the flight was an easy experience, the Jet2 staff were very friendly and helpful. The flight to Ibiza is only two and a half hours which flew by. I tried to entertain the children, but they decided they wanted to watch a film on their tablets.

The Transfer

Ibiza Airport

On arrival to Ibiza we collected the luggage and headed to an area in the car park we were told to go. Friendly Jet2 staff directed us to the coach we would be going on. The journey took around an hour, this however included stopping of at a few hotels on the way.

The coach had air-conditioning which made the journey pleasant, the driver let people know when the coach stopped at their hotel. We were the only people who got off at this resort.

The Hotel

Wow! As soon a we pulled up you could see what a great hotel it was. As mentioned before Jet2holidays sent us to the Tropic Garden Hotel Apartments. The hotel is in the Santa Eulalia area of Ibiza. It is an excellent hotel in a great location.

Upon arrival we were greeted by the front desk team, who warmly welcomed us to the resort. Gave us the information we needed to know regarding meal times. We were then given bands to put on our wrists, these were also room keys – you just needed to scan them at the door. We thought this was brilliant as it meant all of us could access the room and we didn’t need to worry about loosing a key card.

The hotel itself is just amazing. The staff were friendly and very helpful. You can stay at the hotel half board and all inclusive. If you wish to make any upgrades it is really easy to do at the reception.

The first thing that you notice when you pull up is the pool – you can see it through the doors when you arrive. We arrived at the resort at roughly midday , we couldn’t get into our room until 2pm so we put our bags into the storage area and headed to get some lunch after which we explored the hotel.

The Room

The bedroom at the Tropic Garden Apartment Hotel

We stayed in a suite room with side sea view. There a double bed is in the main bedroom and in the lounge area the sofas were made into two separate beds for the children.

What made this the perfect room was access to the balcony from both rooms. This was a great touch as it meant we were able to sit outside while the children were asleep. The balcony had a table and four chairs. We loved relaxing on the balcony after a day at the pool before getting ready for the evening.

There was plenty of storage in the rooms, a safe, kettle and a fridge and even a microwave, which we didn’t use. The bathroom had a shower over the bath and the usual sinks and toilet. Towels are provided in the bathroom.

The  room was cleaned to a high standard daily and the towels can be replaced if requested. If you needed anything you could just pop down to reception and they would help.

The hotel has 225 rooms, these include double rooms, suites, apartments and swim up rooms.

The Food

Variety of food at the Tropic Garden apartment hotel.

There was a great selection of food to choose from. I personally enjoyed trying different types of food that was on offer. The children had no problem finding something they would enjoy. For smaller children there is a reduced height food counter.  The restaurant was buffet style where you could help yourself. There is also a chef who would cook omelettes in the morning and other items during the day – meat, burgers etc. There was a great pizza and pasta area which proved very popular.

Every night the buffet had a different theme. I particularly enjoyed the Chinese night and my son was very happy that there was sushi! There were different foods to sample, which we loved.

Self serve drinks were available in the restaurant.

Only one little confusion regarding drinks and snacks, it wasn’t very clear which items were included. Regardless of what board you are, we found you still had to pay for certain items, including smoothies, ice creams and some snacks during the day. We found that there was however 30% of these items.

Facilities

The outdoor swimming pool Jet2holiday

The hotel has plenty to offer, the outdoor swimming pool being the main place people relax. The pool was large and warm, we spent most of our time there. We bought the children inflatables from a nearby shop as everyone else seemed to have them.

There is also an indoor pool – which was cold yet refreshing! A sauna and gym are near the inside pool. Another area away from the pool, there is a splash pad – which was always quiet, possibly because it is more hidden away. The children enjoyed running around it several times.

There are a couple of pool tables and a table tennis table which proved popular.

The hotel offers children clubs, various activities and at the start of the evening they have childrens club entertainment. The family entertainment can be hit and miss, some nights are better than others. We spent our evenings sipping cocktails and playing cards.

There is a bar by the pool which also serves snacks. Nothing better than being by the pool enjoying a cold cocktail / mocktail. Chocolate milkshake and slushies were the children’s favourites. There is also another bar near the Lobby area which we used on an evening.

OUR TOP TIPS:

  • There’s lots of  sunbeds around the main pool and on a grassy area so you shouldn’t have any problems securing a bed. However, it can get quite busy and many guests tend to head down to find a lounger before breakfast, around 8am. If you look for a bed after lunch, you may struggle to find sunbeds in a good spot.
  • You have to pay for towels for your sunbed. These can be paid for daily or upfront for the duration if your stay. The towels can be replaced daily.

Nearby attractions and Amenities

  • The closest supermarket is a couple of minute walk from the hotel.
  • There is a shop across the road selling tourist souvenirs and other things.
  • One of the great things about the hotel is its location. Being a ten minuet walk to the Marina.
  • You can find a sandy beach in Santa Eulalia, not far from the harbour.

Santa Eulalia

We only walked into Santa Eulalia once as there was so much to do at the hotel. The marina area is very scenic. A lovely walk and there are plenty of places to stop for somewhere to eat and drink. We chose to eat out that night, which we all enjoyed. I would definitely recommend a trip to the marina. The views are stunning.

From the marina you can get a ferry so you can explore other areas along the coastline to Formentara. Another ferry goes to the Hippy Market which is every Wednesday. We didn’t have time to take the ferry as we only found out about it too late on into our holiday.

You will find nice restaurants, cafes, little shops and wonderful views. Taking a walk into Santa Eulalia or catching a bus there it is totally recommended. A family friendly area in Ibiza.
