The Shrinking Jaffa Cakes!

What is with the shrinking size of chocolate bars and biscuits, and more importantly, those yummy Jaffa cakes with their yummy Jaffa and scrumptious chocolate topping that I am currently addicted to?

I normally purchase Tesco’s own brand ones as they taste just a good and at a fraction at the price, that way I can justify munching my way though a whole pack. Last week whilst doing my online food shopping I noticed they had a triple pack of Jaffa cakes for only £1.57, this excited me, three packs of yummy Jaffa cakes were on their way to me.

When they turned up I opened them whilst E was at school thinking I would have a few and was left a little confused and disappointed by the size of them, now I haven’t got giant hands and they haven’t grown since I last had the real Jaffa cakes but I swear they have shrunk, they appear smaller than I remember.

When I am tired, drained or just grumpy I will quite often reach into the cupboard for some little sweet treat to help keep me going, Jaffa cakes are the perfect quick treat that I can eat without E noticing. So to discover my quick treat had shrunk did leave me a little deflated. Chocolate, Jaffa cakes and treats are good for the soul but there is nothing about these shrinking Jaffa cakes that is good at all.

I remember the adverts fondly and frequently do.. full moon, half-moon, total eclipse.. The size of these Jaffa cakes now don’t really leave scope for half-moon, more like quarter moon! The only savour is that they taste amazing as ever.

When E came home and spotted the Jaffa cakes she was very excited, she has good taste when it comes to yummy treats, I told her she could have two having been a good girl and the first thing she said is ‘look at me mummy’.

jaffa cake eyes! She was giggling away to herself and then moved onto eating the, which didn’t take long and I think its safe to say she enjoyed them!

After eating jaffa cakesI look at the photo of her holding them and think they look quite big in small hands, so maybe they haven’t shrunk that much at all but as I am sat here munching them they do appear so much smaller than they used to be and definitely smaller than the cheaper none brand make.

I have noticed a lot of chocolate bars we can buy seem smaller than they used to be too, everything is getting more expensive and we are getting less chocolate for our money.

Despite this shrinking trauma it certainly wont stop me buying the Jaffa cakes as they really are super yummy!

  1. Smaller ? If man knocks a tenth of a second off 100mtrs running record eventually the time will be zero .Mars bars Jaffa cakes alike are reduced to nothing.however nice it took me along time to override the growing hands theory.but I do check everyday ha ha
