Being ill when you’re a mum is rubbish. Whereas in a pre mummy life, I would have taken myself off to bed with enough trashy magazines to last mefor the duration or headed for a hot bath with something medicinal, these options no longer apply with a toddler to consider.
E has been poorly for the last few days, some virus. She was very clingy, tired, no appetite and generally under the weather. But being mummy I looked after her and did and gave her everything she needed and wanted.

Today E is better, on top form with her tantrums, naughtiness and the demands of ‘play with me mummy’.
Last night it was my turn to start feeling poorly. I started to feel cold and achy and really tired, luckily my husband wasn’t at work so he was able to help out, much to E’s disgust. As soon as E was in bed I took myself off to bed with paracetamol with the hope that I would get some rest and feel better in the morning. Unfortunately I didn’t get as much rest as I had hoped as I was up with E during the night, my husband has selective hearing and doesn’t hear her, so today I feel really poorly.
So how am I going get through my sick day?
“TV. Lots of TV. Something I SWORE I would never do. You gotta do what you gotta do.”
E will quite happily watch films or episodes of Peppa Pig.
I will entertain E in the easiest ways possible. I’m sure she will monopolise the iPad for a while, I will suggest she makes me food with her play kitchen- it’s going to be the only food I will have an appetite for. Playing doctors is something she loves so she can have a real poorly person to look after.
I would love to have some help but my husband cannot just take time off work, as he constantly reminds me and I have no family living near by.
We’re currently under the duvet on the sofa eating grapes and watching children’s tv.
There will be mess, but whilst I’m poorly the mess can stay messy. Food will consist of anything easy she wants to eat. After all chicken nuggets and chips hasn’t killed anyone yet? The husband can deal with the mess when he gets home.
I’m not the best person when I’m poorly and I do wish I could just curl up in bed, but the real truth is E needs me to look after her and hopefully she will try to look after me.

This is so true, theres no time for being ill when your a mummy! I remember having to pick my children up from school once whilst carrying my very own sick bag :/
