I had a midwife appointment this week and that went well, baby is still measuring a little ahead but growth must have slowed as I am now only a week ahead, which is a good thing. The midwife commented on how it is just all baby and that there is no other weight that has really been gained, apparently I am a trainee midwives dream patient as you can feel and identify different areas of the body by just touching areas of the bump. All I know is that things are getting cramped In there and every movement makes my whole tummy move and sometimes takes me by surprise. My blood pressure was a little higher compared to how low it has been so far which was novel, not surprised with all the stress I have had this week. Baby was head down at the appointment but I am not sure if that has changed or not since based on the crazy amount of wriggling that has been going on.
It is said that a baby when you are 32 weeks pregnant on average measures around 16.7 inches long and weighs around 3 3/4 – 4 pounds. When awake, baby is practicing all the skills that are necessary for the world including swallowing, breathing, kicking and sucking. This explains why baby gets hiccups a lot and I mean a lot, today it has had hiccups four times already. E is still fascinated when it gets hiccups as my whole tummy moves and she can feel the rhythmic movement when she puts her hand there.
Baby now has toenails, fingernails, and real hair. The skin is becoming soft and smooth as it plump’s up in preparation for birth. The third trimester is when the baby is gaining all its weight ready for when it is born. Apparently this is when I need to be eating more and trying to be healthy as half of any weight I gain goes straight to the baby.
The last week has been a busy one, sorting out E’s new room, which she is now in and generally sorting out the crazy amounts of junk we seem to have in this house I have had the stress of sorting out my iPhone, I dropped it and shattered the screen! Then we have had our local water board onto us about an increase in water usage, the shortened story is that we have an unnoticed leak and waiting for a company to locate it, give us quotes and fix it. Certainly very stressful, no wonder my blood pressure was up at my midwife appointment.
Pregnancy symptoms are varied, the dreaded heartburn has come back the last day or so, I am back on the Gaviscon but it doesn’t seem to help much and I am having to use more pillows at night to keep me more upright to stop me feeling sick from it. I am still taking the yucky iron syrup but my tiredness now comes from not getting comfortable at night and waking several times for the loo. This baby tends to be active until around 11pm at night which makes getting an early night impossible. I am still craving sweet things, doughnuts, trifle, cake, biscuits, chocolate, coke.. you get the idea. Nothing healthy at all.
The annoying Braxton hicks contractions are still occurring and sometimes they are so bad they stop me in my tracks, at least it’s preparing me for the real thing.. I suppose. Despite all the bad sides of pregnancy at this stage, I still love my baby bump.
We went out for a nice family meal on Saturday night which was lovely, trying to do some nice things whilst we are still a three as I am sure when baby comes along eating out will be at the bottom of my list of things to do.
I really need to start thinking about sorting baby clothes out and buying a Moses basket, I will add it to my list of things to do!
That’s all for bump watch this week, check back for more next week.
