If you’ve been around little kids at all, you know their neediness can be both heartwarming and overwhelming. But even in the trying moments when you just want to continue the task at hand, it’s hard to refuse the sweet face looking up at you with arms stretched high.
This week E has increased her requests to be cuddled. She charges at me and reaches toward my waist, half appealing and half demanding, “Can I have a cuddle Mummy.” If by chance it takes me a moment to respond, She barrels impatiently into my shins with a little whine and grabs behind my legs. “Cuddle Mummy” I scoop her up for a squeeze and a kiss. E thinks she needs me, certainly wants me, and it brings me back to what’s important – my distracted heart is refreshed.
I can be sitting watching some television, normally along the lines of Peppa Pig or Doc Mcstuffins and she will climb onto my lap and cuddle me, don’t get me wrong I love cuddle’s with E and I make the most of them as I know one day she wont want lots of cuddle’s from her mummy, after all I am sure there is an age when cuddling just isn’t cool?!
I can only put this sudden need for cuddle’s and mummy down to – one because she loves me dearly and second because her daddy is away with work again. There is definitely a noticeable pattern emerging that when daddy is away E does feel the need for affection and attention and can become a little clingy. This normally passes once daddy has been away for a couple of weeks. Daddy going away never used to really bother E when she was little but as she has got older she is more aware that daddy isn’t here, she will ask where he is and to pull on my heart-strings even more when she wakes up in a morning she asks if daddy is still at work.
E is always pleased to see daddy when he does return, she gets all excited but then she tries to punish him by not letting him touch or cuddle her and just runs to her mummy. We know she misses daddy and we know that she does want to cuddle him when he returns but in her mind she wants to upset him for going away and leaving her again.
It’s not nice knowing that E is deep down a little upset and maybe confused by daddy going away and I hope as she gets older she will understand more about his job, but until then its time for more cuddle’s with mummy.

So lovely to enjoy so many cuddles. Precious moments 🙂
