It has to be said I do love being a mummy, despite E’s tantrums and ability to have selective hearing, it is something I enjoy and can also be very entertaining.
I do however have bouts when I miss my former child free life, I’m sure every mum must feel like this occasionally? The pre Emily days were eventful but in a different way. The ability to do what I want and when I wanted, or even do nothing at all! The freedom to have a night out when I wanted, and some good nights out I certainly did have.
A night out pre-Emily
My social life now tends to revolve around everything child related. I occasionally get together with the mum’s that I met from my ante natal group, we go out for meals and drinks, but life has changed and my life does revolve around E.
My husband had a rare weekday day off today so I seized the opportunity to go into Exeter and have a pub lunch with an old friend, someone who I used to have many a fun night out with, pleasant pub lunches and generally a lot of fun!
I caught the train from Exmouth into Exeter, it really is a beautiful half hour train journey with views along the river Ex and across to Dawlish. Once I had arrived to the lovely City of Exeter catch up commenced, some light retail therapy – so much easier child free! We then found a nice little pub on a side street near the cathedral and had a lovely civilised pub lunch, with wine! The beauty of it all being that we were able to catch up and me not having to worry about E and if she wants a wee, what she wants to eat ect. And as a whole there wasn’t a lot of child related conversation either. For the afternoon out I became Lynsey again, not just mummy!
After such a nice afternoon it made me reflect on life a little, being a stay at home mummy to E is the most rewarding and fun job in the world but I truly think some me time is extremely important. Its nice occasionally to be Lynsey, to be able to have a few drinks or a night out and not have to worry about being there constantly for E. Its almost a way of recharging myself because after I’ve had some me time I’m always so pleased to see Emily and have a lot more stress free time with her, as I have managed to have some time off. The only thing I need to work out now is when I can next catch up with my old friend, child free! But until then its lots of cuddles, crafts, soft play areas and general fun with E.
