The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle is a classic, one of my favourites. I absolutely love reading this book to my children and E also likes to read it on her own, it timeless and the character is a loveable one.
There are also quite a lot of items that you can buy with the Very Hungry Caterpillar on, I had seen the baby toys and some of the Portmeirion items but that is all.
The world of Eric Carle have been expanding their line of products for Eric Carle books and there are so many wonderful things to buy.
We have been lucky enough to be sent a selection of The Very Hungry Caterpillar items and I’m going to share what wonderful merchandise is available.
I will start of with some of the party items you can buy. Recently it was J’s birthday so I thought I would make it Hungry Caterpillar themed.
The birthday cards can be bought from independent retail shops for £2.19, the stunning garland – £5.50 and napkins – £3.50 can be purchase from Talking Tables, they also sell other Hungry Caterpillar items. The stunning The Very Hungry Caterpillar shaped party plate – £23.60 from Portmeirion is wonderful and perfect for nibbles at a party or any time really, we filled it up with yummy treats that J likes.
All of the above items looked great, we kept the garland up for a while after his birthday as it really is cute!
The next couple of items are baby related and how lovely they are. The first one is the Very Hungry Caterpillar Development toy. It is a wonderful toy with a lot of different things to crinkle and make sounds and there are plenty of things to pull and chew on. J loves this and it has the bonus of being able to attach it to things. This is available from amazon, I have also seen it in independent shops.
The next wonderful item is a really lovely changing mat. The mat is large and soft and has a lovely design on and is easy to wipe clean. When I first showed J it he was more interested in climbing on it to look at the design. This can also be purchased from Amazon for £9.99.
Another item for the home for children is The Very Hungry Caterpillar Junior Duvet set. This looks great and as soon as J has a duvet with his cot bed I will be using it. I have opened it and it feels really soft and the pattern is little caterpillars and it is adorable.

There is also a range of games and activity books available to purchase.
This is the Very Hungry Caterpillar 4-1 games box. The box has four great games, 4 Shapes in a Row, Matching Bingo, Snap and Twisted Pairs. It’s available from a variety of online retailers.
E and I had a lot of fun playing the games, they are suitable from 3 years plus. After we played the games E decided to use the cards to play pairs.
Next up we have The World of Eric Carle Activity Book and 2 in 1 Jigsaw.
This comes in a nice carry case, the activity book is aimed at improving your counting and the jigsaw puzzle is large and on one side it is a colourful picture and on the other side it is black and white so you child can colour it in, we haven’t coloured the jigsaw in but I imagine E is going to love doing that.
My nature trail adventure counting fun and jigsaw puzzle can be bought at various retailers including Toys r us , Amazon and others. RRP £7.99.
We also have the The Very Hungry Caterpillar Happy Tin, I am in love with the tin, let alone the contents. The tin includes lots of activities which will keep any child happy!
Inside the tin you will find one colouring book, two activity books, a double sided poster to colour in, loads of animal stickers and four felt tip pens. You can purchase it from a variety of retailers. E absolutely loves all of the activities and she couldn’t wait to get started, this tin is great for a rainy day, on holiday or anytime the kids need entertaining. The tin is great and we have put all the game pieces from the 4 in 1 games box in there as well to keep them safe from the little hands of J.
The last item is The Very Hungry Caterpillar Nature Walk Scrapbook The book is a great place for keeping all the things you have found on your nature walk and also drawing things you have seen. It has activities to do inside it and also comes with a stickers inside it.
We have taken the scrapbook with us whilst we have been on a walk and we have collected a few things, E cant wait to stick some things in and draw some pictures. She kept looking for caterpillars whilst out too. The book is RRP £7.99 and cam be purchased from a range of retailers.
