What the Ladybird Heard Next by Julia Donaldson Review

What the Ladybird Heard NextI absolutely love books and reading and E seems to have an interest in them too, she loves me reading to her and she frequently flicks through books looking at them. I look forward to when she learns to read herself so she can start to really appreciate books.

Julia Donaldson is one of our favourite authors in this house so when we were sent a copy of the sequel to what the Ladybird Heard which was published in 2009, we were very excited.  What the Ladybird Heard Next by Julia Donaldson and Lydia Monks will be published 10th September by MacMillan Children’s Books so we are very lucky to receive an advance copy of it to review.

Once upon a farm lived a ladybird,

And these are the things that she saw and heard..

In What the Ladybird Heard Next robbers Hefty Hugh and Lanky Len are out of jail and heading back to the farm, ready to cause trouble again. They have been steeling eggs from the fat red hen, but now they are setting their sights higher and are planning on steeling the fat red hen. Fortunately the ladybird overhears this plan and the clever ladybird and all the other farm animals come up with a plan of their own…

Fat Red Hen

What the Ladybird Heard Next is another funny farm yard story with plenty of humour, animal sounds and even a rare mysterious Snuggly Snerd Bird. The story is beautifully written, with rhyming text that really flows and keeps the story moving at a fast and exciting pace. The illustrations on every page are bright colourful and full of lots of sparkly glitter texture.

What the ladybird heard next

If you look carefully when reading the book you will notice the tiny little ladybird is also hiding on every page

What the ladybird heard next

Both me and E absolutely love this book, it appeals to her sense of humour and she enjoys pointing all the animals out and looking out for the ladybird. It has become a bedtime story firm favourite and sits on the bookshelf with all the other wonderful Julia Donaldson story books. E also enjoys looking at the book herself and I hear her ‘pretending’ to read the story, it has to be said she knows most of the words as we have read that many times already.

What the ladybird heard nextWhat the Ladybird heard next is published on September the 10th and I think it will become another popular Julia Donaldson book that will be loved by many and is definitely one to have on the bookshelf.
