Recently i was lucky enough to enjoy a very scrumptious afternoon tea at Fowey Hall in Cornwall. buyagift.co.uk gifted me a voucher for Fowey Hall so that i could sample their afternoon tea menu. Being a girl with a serious sweet tooth, I couldn’t have been more excited.
Fowey Hall is one of the most luxurious country house hotels in Cornwall, with rich architecture, which was the inspiration for Toad Hall in ‘The Wind in the Willows. It was a glorious sunny day and i was really looking forward to seeing what Toad Hall was like.
When we arrived and i was impressed, a lovely hotel with amazing views over Fowey. We couldn’t have picked a better day with the sun shining. Here is how our afternoon went down.

Walking into the traditional and bright entrance of Fowey hall there are two things that strike you. Firstly how traditional the hotel is and how welcoming it is. The team at the reception desk were more than helpful and that set the scene for the afternoon. There is a certain ambience that oozes throughout the whole hotel. It makes for a refreshing change from other hotels i have visited in the past.
We were taken into a lovely room with spectacular sea views. The decor was quaint and a lovely place to enjoy afternoon tea. We kicked the afternoon of with a lovely glass of Cornish Camel Valley Brut. There is something about drinking in the day time that was really enjoyable.

A little while later a very tasty looking three tier platter came out. There looked to be a nice selection of goodies to enjoy.

The Savoury
Smoked salmon, dill cream cheese, egg mayonnaise and cucumber sandwich.
The sandwiches were very tasty, however i thought there would have been more variety on the finger sandwich front.
The Sweet
Plain and Fruit scones with strawberry jam & clotted cream
Mini Victoria Sponge cakes
Citrus Cheesecakes
Raspberry Parfait
Macaroons
Carrot Cake
Orange cream cake
Finally came the sweet. This is what i was really looking forward to. No afternoon tea is complete without some scones. The scones were still warm when they turned up. We ate these with lashings of cream and jam – there was no holding back!
After we had devoured the scones it was onto the top layer which was making my mouth water. I loved the mini cheese cakes and victoria sponges, The raspberry parfait was very sweet, it was definitely a sugar overload. After eating a few of the cakes we were starting to feel rather full, i was determined not to waste any of these wonderful cakes.

A lovely waitress said if we couldn’t eat it all they can give us a box to take the left overs home. We decided to do this because we was extremely full.
Afternoon tea at Fowey Hall was a heavenly experience from start to finish. The tranquil atmosphere, tasty sandwiches and impeccable desserts that hit the spot. It was the perfect way to way to spend my Saturday afternoon.
If you are visiting Cornwall and looking for somewhere to have a great afternoon tea then i can recommend Fowey Hall. You wont be disappointed.
