Make your own Mermaid with Bakers Ross

We have recently received a box of lovely summer crafts from Baker Ross, E loves crafting so they have been keeping her busy over the last couple of weeks.

One of the items received was a pack of Mermaid sewing kits.

Bakers Ross Mermaid kitsThe set comes with simple instructions and the felt pieces are self adhesive so no glue is required. E was eager to get started as soon as she saw the kits when she got in from school, so I sat her down, threaded the wool onto the large child friendly blunt needle so she could get sewing, after showing her what she had to do she sat happily sewing the Mermaid.

What I love about the kits is that the holes are already punched into the felt so its simple for E to sew.

Once the Mermaid was sewn most of the way round it was time to stuff her with the wadding provided, E enjoyed doing this but I don’t think she put as much as she could in, but as she told me when I tried to help, this is my mermaid!

Once filled all you have to do is stitch up the rest of the mermaid and cut of the excess wool and knot it so the thread doesn’t come undone.

It was time to decorate the mermaid, all the felt pieces are self adhesive which made them simple for E to use, she peeled off the stickers, looked at the pictures and decorated her mermaid with a little guidance from me.

finishing the mermaid

As you can see the mermaid looks lovely once it was finished, E is very proud of her especially because she made most of her by herself.

After tidying everything up she told me that her Mermaid is called Isobel and then started to play with her. What I love about this craft is that E has continued to play with what she has made and even taken her to bed!

The Mermaid kits come as a pack of two and only cost £4.70 and are a simple activity that will keep any child occupied for a good amount of time!
