The fun of having Grandma come to stay

When I was growing up I used to love seeing my Grandparents, I look back now and I have lots of fond memories of all the fun we had.

E absolutely loves my parents, from the moment I tell her they are coming to visit and from the moment they leave she is highly excitable. My parents only live an hour and a half away so we try to see each other frequently.

Yesterday my parents came to stay for the night, as soon as their car pulled up on the drive E went into full on excited mode, running to the window and banging on it to get their attention. She then wanted to put her shoes on so that she could run outside to say hello, on this occasion wellies were the nearest thing she could get her hands on. The sight of a three-year old wearing a lovely girly skirt with wellies is one to make you smile.

E doesn’t really give my parents chance to get settled, she was straight into showing them her new trampoline that her other grandparents bought her for her birthday. She absolutely loves it and as it is still in the lounge she was keen to show them how high she could bounce. Once we had eaten our lunch E pretended to sneeze, I laughed at this as it means she is poorly and wants to play doctors and Grandma didn’t have a choice about if she wanted to play or not. E then decided that Grandma was the poorly one and that she was going to make her better!

Poor Grandma had to endure a lot from Doctor E

Grandma finally had her turn at making E better

Making Emily BetterThe afternoon continued with lots of playing. We all went into the garden as the sun was shining. My mum being lovely helped out with out gardening, I have no green fingers at all. E decided she wanted to help so we gave her a little spade and she did some digging throwing mud everywhere in the process and then deciding sitting in the mud makes digging easier.

E likes to show Grandma everything she does, all her toys, what she has eaten for tea and insists on shower her when she is in her pyjamas. When E finally went to bed we managed to get some adult time!

Today the weather has been so hot, we ventured into town for a little while but the heat was making us wilt. The plan was to go down to the sea front after lunch but all of us were struggling with the heat, after all it was midday sun. E decided that it was time to play with Grandma again, from building blocks to making music. At one point Grandma was given a toy guitar whilst E had a drum and then I was given the xylophone. The music in E’s eyes was wonderful, even though it sounded terrible. After that it was time for more bouncing.

E decided she wanted to play outside. She grabbed hold of the hula hoop and attempted to do it, she then asked me so I showed her how to do it properly after that she told Grandma to have a go, my mum being good fun did have a go. It was very amusing.

E has a lot of fun with Grandma and she loves to talk to Grandad and give him play food to eat. I can see that E is going to have a lot of fond memories with her Grandma and Grandad as she grows up just like it did of mine. When it came to them going home E wanted to go with them, my mum said she had to stay and look after mummy, E said she didn’t want to. I have promised her that we will go and visit Grandma and Grandad soon.

E tells me that she is Grandmas best girl. She loves Grandma and Grandad very much.

E’s other grandparents live far away so she doesn’t get to see them very often, hopefully she will still grow up with some fond memories of them too.

At the moment its safe to say Grandma is Emily’s favourite member of the family and I can tell Grandma loves her very much too, but I expect she is glad of the rest when she goes home…..
